Coherent control of plasma dynamics.

چکیده
Coherent control of a system involves steering an interaction to a final coherent state by controlling the phase of an applied field. Plasmas support coherent wave structures that can be generated by intense laser fields. Here, we demonstrate the coherent control of plasma dynamics in a laser wakefield electron acceleration experiment. A genetic algorithm is implemented using a deformable mirror with the electron beam signal as feedback, which allows a heuristic search for the optimal wavefront under laser-plasma conditions that is not known a priori. We are able to improve both the electron beam charge and angular distribution by an order of magnitude. These improvements do not simply correlate with having the 'best' focal spot, as the highest quality vacuum focal spot produces a greatly inferior electron beam, but instead correspond to the particular laser phase front that steers the plasma wave to a final state with optimal accelerating fields.

Simulation Study of Plasma Coherent Structure Dynamics with Three-Dimensional Particle Code
Recently, it was reported that the evidence of non-diffusive (that is, convective) plasma transport from the edge of core plasma to the first wall in magnetic confinement fusion devices. Such a transport is thought to be provided by intermittent filamentary coherent plasma structures “blobs” in scrape-off layer (SOL) [1]. Many theoretical and numerical studies about blob dynamics have been perf...
متن کاملIon dynamics and coherent structure formation following laser pulse self-channeling
The propagation of a superintense laser pulse in an underdense, inhomogeneous plasma has been studied numerically by two-dimensional particle-incell simulations on a time scale extending up to several picoseconds. The effects of the ion dynamics following the charge-displacement self-channeling of the laser pulse have been addressed. Radial ion acceleration leads to the “breaking” of the plasma...
متن کاملCoherent control of non-Markovian photon-resonator dynamics
We study the unitary time evolution of photons interacting with a dielectric resonator using coherent control pulses. We show that non-Markovianity of transient photon dynamics in the resonator subsystem may be controlled to within a photon-resonator transit time. In general, appropriate use of coherent pulses and choice of spatial subregion may be used to create and control a wide range of non...

We present information theoretic search strategies for single and multirobot teams to localize the source of a chemical spill in turbulent flows. In this work, robots rely on sporadic and intermittent sensor readings to synthesize information maximizing exploration strategies. Using the spatial distribution of the sensor readings, robots construct a belief distribution for the source location. ...
